Why stretching is your way to happiness
Stretching is more than just a means to warm up before and cool down after exercise. Although stretching improves the flexibility of your joints and makes your muscles more supple, it does much more. Exercises that stretch the muscles — such as yoga, pilates or simple stretches — also increase the levels of happy hormones. Stretching promotes serotonin, dopamine and endorphins production. Serotonin promotes a good mood, while dopamine increases motivation. Endorphins are particularly joyful hormones that also reduce the perception of pain.
